With a gritty opening that saw only five shots from each team, and three penalties, the Centre Wellington Warriors Local League Peewee team defeated Erin 6-2 on Jan. 11.
Goalie Kyle Young was stellar again, saving 14, particularly at a clutch time in the third with a major scrum at the crease. Garrett Vander Velde opened the scoring in the first, assisted by Tyler Robinson and Ben Bell.
Vander Velde’s second goal in third was truly remarkable, as he buried the puck in the top right corner from a seemingly-impossible angle. The back-checking by and presence of Cole McKenna was exceptional, as was the performance by Braeden Campbell. Lucas Mason consistently held the line, and assisted on the fifth goal with Duncan Woodard. Hayden Ireland repeated his performance of the previous game, scoring another 4 goals.
