Warm up with song this winter season

Several exciting events are coming up in the 2014-15 Elora Festival Singers concert series.

Spirituals and Folksongs

An afternoon of songs from the Elora Festival Singers’ celebrated albums, In Song and Folk and Lore, featuring famed Canadian actor and singer, Jackie Richardson. The event is Oct. 19 at 3pm in St. John’s Church, Elora. Cost is $35.

A Village Messiah: Handel

Handel’s iconic Messiah is one of the most widely performed and cherished of all choral works during the Christmas season.

The Juno and Grammy-nominated Elora Festival Singers have made performing this work an annual winter rite in Elora. Don’t miss it, Dec. 7 at 3pm in St. Joseph’s Church, Fergus. Cost is $40.

Festival of Carols

Popular Christmas songs, carols both traditional and modern, and audience sing-a-longs have made Festival of Carols a community tradition in Elora for decades. Interspersed with whimsical readings and humorous anecdotes from Canon Robert Hulse, Festival of Carols is a delightful seasonal event that you will surely want to add to your own holiday tradition. Shows will be held at St. John’s Church in Elora Dec. 19 at 5 or 7:30pm and Dec. 22 at 7:30pm. The cost is $35.

Soup Concert: William Byrd

A fabulous soup lunch will be served with beverages and hors d’oeuvres followed by a concert with commentary from Maestro Edison. Featuring excerpts from Mass for Four Voices, Mass for Three Voices, and Mass for Five Voices by the renowned English Tudor composer, William Byrd. The show will be on Jan. 18 at St. John’s Church in Elora; soup at 1:30pm and concert at 3pm. Cost is $40 including lunch and $25 for the concert only.  

Carnegie Hall preview

A special sneak preview of what the Elora Festival Singers will be performing at New York’s legendary Carnegie Hall in March. A preview will be held at St. John’s Church March 8. Show starts at 3pm and cost is $35.
