Walking bridge discussion resurfaces at Puslinch council

Councillors here are not objecting to a walking bridge at the site of the soon-to-be-demolished Stroy’s Bridge; it’s just not in the fiscal plans for now.

The item arose again on June 6 following a review of Grand River Conservation Authority minutes from May.

Councillor Wayne Stokley said the GRCA had a conversation regarding Stroy’s Bridge and its officials feel there should be a walking bridge at the location. Stokley asked if the municipality should be asking the GRCA if it would be interested in supporting the township in the walkway – and possibly helping financially.

Mayor Dennis Lever responded, “I’d be okay with that, but remember their money comes from us.”

“Not all of it,” Stokley said.

Lever said, “I personally don’t have any problems with there being a walking bridge across the river. Financing of that bridge is something I might have concerns with.”

Councillor Susan Fielding said she’d like the idea to be something to be considered in the future.

“I think it should be a goal,” she said. “I understand there are financial considerations and this is not something we can do right away.”
