Councillors here approved a policy to recognize volunteer groups, organizations or service clubs in Minto with 50 years of continuous service.
On June 3, council approved a policy to recognize various groups with 50 years or more of continuous service.
Deputy-mayor Judy Dirksen first brought the motion to council May 20. The policy noted that it would be up to the individual organizations to make council aware of the milestone.
Councillor Wayne Martin asked for clarification of the definition of volunteer group or organization. He cited Norwell District Secondary School, which is celebrating its 70th anniversary.
“Would a school be eligible under this criteria?” he asked.
Dirksen said, “What is key in this is that the group is required to make council aware.”
