The KW Predators Volleyball Club will be offering a youth volleyball league beginning April 1 and running for six weeks.
Depending upon the response, the club is looking at starting a club volleyball program: CW Predators. Initially, it would be a U-14 girls team and possibly a boys team.
The goal of the Predators Volleyball Club is to spread the word about the great game of volleyball to as many young athletes as possible.
The majority of clubs are only concerned with the development of their club teams, but the Predators, who also run very competitive club teams, are very interested in instilling a love of volleyball in young athletes, club officials said.
To this end, the Predators will by running a youth league for athletes in grades 7 and 8 (born in 2002 and 2003). The goals of the league are as follows:
– instill a love of the game of volleyball in each athlete;
– teach proper skills from some of the top-rated coaches in the province;
– teach the rules of the game while learning to play; and
– have fun, while competing in volleyball competitions
No experience is required. Boys and girls in grades 7 and 8 are taught the skills of volleyball and exposed to game situations.
The coaching staff is headed by Jack Frimeth, a former Predators coach and a high school volleyball coach at Centre Wellington District High School with support from club and high school players from the local region.
Balanced teams with a variety of skills and age levels are assembled for youth league play. Players learn individual skills and perhaps more importantly the importance of playing as a team during these sessions.
Starting on April 1 from 6:15 to 8:15pm at CWDHS. Age/grade: boys and girls in Grades 7 and 8 (born in 2002 and 2003). $75.
