When it came to hiring an architect to prepare the plans for the new Fergus OPP detachment building, county council chose someone familiar.
Council approved an administration, finance, and personnel committee recommendation on May 28 to give the job to Ventin Group Architects, of Brantford. That company built the Rockwood OPP station, and did work on libraries in Clifford, Arthur, Drayton, and Elora.
Ventin will design and develop detailed specifications and tender documents for 5.5 per cent of the total value of the building, which is estimated at $6-million in the county’s capital plan. The county has applied for a grant for it.
Committee chairman John Green said of the new building, “It isn’t going to be exactly the same as the other one [in Rockwood] but it will have some similarities.”
