Vehicles entered, five teens arrested

Five local teens have been arrested after a group of youths was seen entering vehicles and garages here last weekend.

On Jan, 14 at about 12:30am Wellington County OPP received a report that five or six youths, all wearing dark hoodies, were seen “going from house to house and entering vehicles and garages” on Erinlea Crescent in Erin, police say.

When the youths were approached by a local resident, they ran off in different directions, with some cutting through backyards to get away, police added.

Sometime later officers arrested five Erin teens – four 16-year-olds and one 17-year-old – and charged them each with mischief under $5,000. One teen was also charged with possession of break-in tools.

The teens are to appear in Guelph court on March 1.

Police are reminding residents to report suspicious activity and to always lock their vehicles, garages, homes and other buildings.
