Vandals cut a path through this community with damage, thefts and break-ins at several locations late last week and into last weekend.
At least three incidents have been reported, including a mischief incident at J.D. Hogarth Public School on Belsyde Avenue; a break-in, vandalism and theft at the Fergus Highland Rugby Club building at Victoria Park; and vandalism at the Canadian Cancer Society’s Relay for Life tent (which was slashed and torn down) on June 13, the night before the event.
The break-in at the rugby club occurred sometime between Saturday evening and Monday morning, when it was discovered.
Dishes were broken and a quantity of cash and alcohol taken. Condiments were also allegedly sprayed around inside.
Club member and volunteer Corb Whale said the impact of the vandalism and damage showed little respect for the volunteers who help maintain the club.
“The community needs to know this sort of thing is going on,” Whale said.
No report on the rugby club break-in was available at press time from Wellington County OPP, although officers were at the building Monday morning.
However, an OPP report did reveal that sometime between Friday afternoon and Saturday evening, someone spray painted three separate buildings at J.D. Hogarth Public School.
The suspect(s) used green spray paint and sprayed “profanities and inappropriate comments” that were viewed by some children that attend the school, who alerted their parents and they called police.
Anyone with information regarding this incident can contact their local Police Service, or the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
