PUSLINCH – A vacant home in Puslinch will be demolished and examined for clues after a fire on July 11 rendered the home unliveable.
Deputy chief Brad Bigrigg said a neighbour on Forestell Road in Puslinch saw smoke and fire coming from the home and called 911 around 1:15pm.
Bigrigg said the building was fully involved when firefighters arrived on scene.
Puslinch called Guelph, Rockwood and Cambridge fire services for water and for their ATVs as the fire spread to the surrounding field.
In all there were 25 to 30 firefighters on scene.
“The fire took off in the field,” Bigrigg said, adding that left firefighters with two fires to control.
By 5pm, Bigrigg said firefighters were still on scene monitoring “hot spots.”
A demolition crew was expected on scene July 12 to pull off the roof and walls while the OPP and the fire marshal look for evidence as to the cause of the fire.
“We want to determine the origin, cause and circumstances of the fire,” Bigrigg said.
He noted the house has been unoccupied for a number of years, so it’s unlikely the fire was caused by a utility malfunction or is accidental.
He said the property owner has been informed and is arranging the heavy equipment.
“We appreciate the neighbour calling 911 right away,” Bigrigg said.
