Police have clarified that an alleged gunpoint robbery with a pellet gun did not take place at a local high school, as initially reported.
On May 23 Wellington County OPP officials stated that officers were called to Centre Wellington District High School in Fergus on May 15 to investigate reports that a student had brought a firearm to the school.
Police initially reported that following an “interaction” between two male students, one of the teens pulled out “a firearm” and robbed the other.
On May 24 police issued another press release clarifying “This interaction occurred off of school property.”
Nonetheless, police did locate and seize a black pellet gun that resembles a semi-automatic pistol.
A 14-year-old boy from Fergus was charged with robbery using a firearm and using an imitation firearm while committing an offence. He was arrested and held for bail court on May 23.
OPP officials say the investigation is ongoing and anyone with information can contact the Wellington County OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Centre Wellington OPP Detachment, D/Cst. Tanya Beckon at 519-846-5930.
