WELLINGTON COUNTY – A flood warning was issued for the Conestogo River through Drayton in the wake of heavy rainfall last week.
A warning issued at 11:55pm on Sept. 22 from the Grand River Conservation Authority (GRCA) states flows in the Conestogo River through Drayton were expected to peak in Flood Warning Zone 1 early Thursday morning. Municipal flood coordinators were advised to notify affected residents and monitor conditions.
The GRCA reported at that point the Grand River watershed had received between 60 to 100 millimeters of rainfall over the previous 24 hours.
The GRCA announced all flood warnings in the region had ended around 3:30pm on Sept. 24, however the public was still urged to exercise caution around waterways.
The authority reports the Grand River watershed received between 60 and 120 mm of rainfall between Sept. 21 and 22, with the largest amounts recorded in the northern and western portions of the watershed.
The Maitland Valley Conservation Authority issued a Water Conditions Statement on Sept. 22 and minor flooding in low lying areas near the river was visible around Harriston the following day.
