GUELPH – The local volunteer portal, formally operated by PIN, has re-launched with United Way Guelph Wellington Dufferin.
The volunteer portal provides individuals a place to find volunteer opportunities and offers organizations a place to recruit volunteers.
“We are pleased to be able to continue to provide this service and keep our community connected and engaged,” said Glenna Banda, executive director, United Way Guelph Wellington Dufferin.
“The portal provides a central place to build community wellbeing and a sense of belonging by helping community members find out more about getting involved and giving back.”
Since the pandemic, volunteering across the country has declined significantly.
Statistics Canada data release in November 2022 show that more than 65 per cent of non-profit organizations serving households and individuals are experiencing a shortage of volunteers and intend to recruit.
Many are having trouble keeping up with the demand for services without their core volunteer base.
“Volunteers make a significant difference to our community, but the experience a volunteer gains as the result of volunteering is also significant,” said Banda.
“As we all look for ways to make better possible, we encourage our community to look for ways they can use their skills, experiences and time to make a positive impact on the lives of everyone in our community.”
Organizations and volunteers who previously used the portal under PIN’s leadership can access their previous volunteer postings using existing logins.
New organizations and volunteers are welcome to create a profile and start their volunteering experience immediately.
“We know the volunteer portal is a great resource to help our community partners build their capacity,” said Banda.
“We hope the relaunch assists organizations with their outreach and marks the beginning of a resurgence of volunteering in our community.”
