The city and Wellington County’s largest annual fundraising campaign had its official kick-off Sept. 16.
The goal for the United Way’s 2009 campaign is $2.65-million.
In 2008, the campaign raised $2.6-million, which supported 80 city and county social service and community programs.
“In these tough economic times the needs of our community are greater than ever,” said campaign 2009 chairman Alastair Summerlee. “Our community has a wonderful and proud history of supporting those in need, and I am confident that we will yet again have another successful campaign.”
Ken Dardano, executive director of the United Way, said, “We support local programs and achieve local results. The services are crucial to the health and wellbeing of our loved ones and neighbours. I think people understand that our community simply wouldn’t be the same without the United Way and they will give generously.”
