UGDSB releases draft policy for public input

GUELPH – The Upper Grand District School Board (UGDSB) has created a new policy to address student registration.

The policy outlines when  students may attend school  other than their designated home schools.

It also outlines how students living outside of the UGDSB jurisdiction can apply to attend school within the board.

Out of area and out of district attendance will be limited to designated schools and this designation will be updated annually.

“This change in process will allow enrolment to be balanced across the board’s schools and help to ensure an efficient use of space while supporting the board’s long-term accommodation planing,” officials state.

Students who are allowed to attend out of area or out of jurisdiction schools will be permitted to remain at the same school until graduation or for the remainder of grades at that school, in order to “support stability and continuity for these students and families,” officials state.

The new policy, titled Policy 521 – Admission and Registration, is set to replace existing Policy 501 – Out of Area and Out of District Attendance.

All are welcome to review the policy draft and submit online feedback at ugdsb.ca/board/policy, or call 519-822-4420 ext. 544 to request a printed copy of the draft.

The deadline for public input is 4pm on July 12.
