GUELPH – February is Winter Walk Month and Feb. 7 was Winter Walk Day.
Winter Walk Day is celebrated on the first Wednesday of February each year and encourages students and staff to walk or wheel to and from school.
The Upper Grand District School Board is encouraging students and staff to get moving throughout February. Whether it be walking or rolling to or from school or getting moving during breaks, there are so many fun activities to participate.
This year, the UGDSB is joining schools across Ontario for Winter Walk Month.
Participating schools were set to celebrate with special events on Feb. 7 and throughout the month.
Activities that schools or families can participate in include:
– walking around the school yard during break times;
– playing I Spy – Ontario Active School Travel has supplied some great activity cards at ontarioactiveschooltravel.ca;
– make a list of items, and then go for a walk and look for them;
– take pictures while walking;
– look for animal tracks in the snow and talk about what animal they could be from; and
– count road signs that you see and then discuss what they mean.
Participants can let the UGDSB know what they find on their journey by using #WinterWalkDay and by tagging the board on X (@ugdsb) and Instagram (UpperGrand).
