U of G hosts College Royal

Young scientist – It’s too soon to say whether four-year-old Audley Bennett will become a scientist one day, but she was certainly interested in the experiment that was demonstrated at College Royal on March 15.

The University of Guelph greenhouse offered warmth and blooms on a rainy day on March 15 during the 101st College Royal.

Old MacDonald’s Farm allowed children to get up close to some farm animals.

Rumenating – This cow, with a hole in its stomach, was also popular at College Royal. Called ‘Rumen with a view,’ the hole allows scientists to see what’s going on inside the digestive tract.

Science lessons – Fourth year food science major Kaitlyn Armstrong used Gummy Bears to explain how osmosis works to families in the Food Science Building at College Royal on March 15. Hot honey – Hot honey was selling like hotcakes at College Royal on March 15. Fifth year student Hannah Ferouz explained that students had hot peppers left over from the hot pepper sauce they created for Fair November and infused university-grown honey to use up the extra.

Family affair – The grounds and buildings of the University of Guelph were flooded with families over the weekend during College Royal – a showcase of discovery and learning.

Notable Aggie – Sentator Rob Black, an OAC alumnus, says a few words at the University of Guelph’s College Royal open house on the weekend.

Squaring off – The square dance competition was another popular event at College Royal. Here the Ontario Agricultural College’s 25 Buckaroos strut their stuff.
