Two subdivisions planned for Mount Forest

Two subdivisions are planned to fill out the space near the Mount Forest fairgrounds.

During a public meeting on June 26, council supported in principle a 24-unit subdivision from Marlana Homes that will continue along Newfoundland Street south of King Street East.

“The lands are currently designated residential so there’s no official plan amendment required,” said county planner Linda Redmond.

“They’re also currently zoned R2, which permits semi-detached in the zoning (bylaw) as well, so there is no other approvals from that perspective required.”

The 1.5-hectare lot will have 12 semi-detached units, which Redmond said meets township density targets.

“It seems like a straightforward and a good use for the land,” said councillor Steve McCabe.

Councillor Dan Yake was concerned about the current reconstruction project of King Street East.

CAO Mike Givens explained services are being extended for Reeves Construction’s Lucas subdivision, which is next to the Marlana Homes subdivision.

“We are not going to ‘finish’ the work on King Street (East) … until both of the subdivisions have received (service),” he said.

Yake raised concerns about the residents along King Street East that will have to wait for approvals for the construction to be finished.

Council passed a motion supporting the plan in principle.

Lucas subdivision

A 34-lot subdivision comprising of 28 single family homes and three semi-detached dwellings is planned for the property  between King Street East and Albert Street.

Council approved a subdivision agreement with Reeves Construction.

“I’m just happy to see some more development and more growth in our town,” said McCabe.
