Two musicals are coming to Orangeville Music Theatre this month.
Shrek The Musical Jr.
From June 10 to 12 the Youth Troupe will take to the stage in this fun and exciting show, organizers state.
Beauty is in the eye of the ogre in Shrek The Musical JR, based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film and fantastic Broadway musical.
It’s a “big bright beautiful world” as everyone’s favorite ogre, Shrek, leads a cast of fairytale misfits on an adventure to rescue a princess and find true acceptance.
Part romance and part twisted fairy tale, Shrek JR is an irreverently fun show with a powerful message for the whole family.
Once upon a time, in a faraway swamp, there lived an ogre named Shrek. One day, Shrek finds his swamp invaded by banished fairytale misfits who have been cast off by Lord Farquaad, a tiny terror with big ambitions. When Shrek sets off with a wisecracking donkey to confront Farquaad, he’s handed a task – if he rescues feisty princess Fiona, his swamp will be righted. Shrek tries to win Fiona’s love and vanquish Lord Farquaad, but a fairytale wouldn’t be complete without a few twists and turns along the way.
Mary Poppins
From June 17 to 25 everyone’s favourite nanny takes to the stage in this Mary Poppins. One of the most popular Disney movies of all time is capturing hearts in a whole new way: as a practically perfect musical, organizers state.
The jack-of-all trades, Bert, introduces us to England in 1910 and the troubled Banks family. Young Jane and Michael have sent many a nanny packing before Mary Poppins arrives on their doorstep.
Using a combination of magic and common sense, she must teach the family how to value each other again.
Mary Poppins takes the children on many magical and memorable adventures, but Jane and Michael aren’t the only ones she has a profound effect upon.
Even grown-ups can learn a lesson or two from the nanny who advises that “anything can happen if you let it.”
Both shows will take place at At The Town Hall Opera House, 87 Broadway, Orangeville.
Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for children 6 to 12 years of age and $10 for chidren 5 and under $10. There will be an additional box office fee.
Tickets can be purchased by phone at 519-942-3423, online at www.orangevillemusictheatre.com, in person at Town Hall Opera House, 87 Broadway or at the Orangeville Visitor Centre, 200 Lakeview Court.
