WOOLWICH – An Elora man is dead after a serious crash here last Thursday.
Waterloo Police reported the crash took place on June 16 at about 4:46pm on Northfield Drive East near Line 86 in the Township of Woolwich.
Police say a vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic and was struck by a dump truck.
Shawn Beam, 23, of Elora, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the dump truck was taken to hospital and released with minor injuries. Police say the speed of Beam’s vehicle was likely a factor in the collision, but drug and alcohol use were not a factor.
A funeral for Beam, who was interning as an electrical engineer, was to take place on June 21. His family has asked people to donate blood in his name.
Another fatal crash
GUELPH-ERAMOSA – A Guelph man is dead after a serious collision here last weekend between a motorcycle and a car.
On June 18 at about 9:05am, emergency crews responded to the collision on Wellington County Road 124 and Township Road 1 in Guelph-Eramosa.
Police say a red Mini Cooper was travelling east on 124 followed by a second vehicle, which was followed by a motorcycle. The red Mini Cooper made a left hand turn onto Township Road 1 as the motorcycle pulled out to pass and the vehicles collided.
The driver of the motorcycle, Kevin Felker, 47, of Guelph, was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries and was later pronounced dead.
The driver of the car was not injured.
A portion of Wellington Road 124 was closed for several hours while the crash was being investigated by technical collision investigators from the Wellington County OPP and OPP Highway Safety Division. Police ask anyone that may have witnessed the collision to call 1-888-310-1122.
