Two men charged in stabbing death in downtown Guelph

GUELPH – Two Guelph brothers are facing first degree murder charges in connection with the stabbing death of a man in downtown Guelph last weekend.

On Feb. 29 at about 1:51am three males were involved in a disturbance on the sidewalk in front of Tony’s Billiards on MacDonell Street.

Police say the victim, a 27-year-old Guelph man, “received life threatening stab wounds during the altercation.” He was transported by ambulance to Guelph General Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The other Guelph men involved, aged 22 and 26, fled and were arrested by patrol officers without incident at Macdonell Street and Woolwich Street at about 1:55am.

Police say all three men are known to each other and the two men charged with first degree murder were to appear in bail court on March 2. The suspects are brothers.

“This was an isolated incident that does not pose any risk to community safety,” police stated in a press release.
