Two granting programs in Centre Wellington open Oct. 1

CENTRE WELLINGTON – The Centre Wellington Community Foundation (CWCF) is opening applications to community groups from two funds – the CW COVID-19 Community Repsonse Fund  and the Jack R. MacDonald Community Fund.

Applications are accepted from Oct. 1 to Nov. 1 at 5pm.

The CW COVID-19 Community Response Fund granting program supports the urgent ongoing needs of the community caused by COVID-19.

“This fund is a rapid response fund, pooling community donations big and small,” said foundation chair Randall Howard in a press release.

This fund aligns with the Vital Signs Report of 2019 and recognizes the importance of charities and not-for-profits in the health and well-being of the community.

Grants can be up to $5,000 and are focused on addressing immediate needs in the following four main areas: mental wellbeing, food, transportation and technology.

The Jack R. MacDonald Community Fund will offer grants that support initiatives in Elora only, as this was stipulated by MacDonald himself when he gifted the money.

Applications to this fund can be up to $6,500. Projects should support any of the following: belonging and leadership, housing, health, wellbeing and food security, arts and culture, the gap between rich and poor, and the environment.

“This fund honours and continues Jack R. MacDonald’s legacy of giving to support the needs of Elora,” foundation executive director Raymond Soucy stated.

CWCF has granted $182,929 to support 42 projects since the pandemic began.
