Trust fund set up to aid family of injured man

Local businessman Peter Cheng was transferred from Hamilton to Groves Hospital here on Nov. 14, but he remains in serious condition.

Cheng suffered major injuries when he fell at his business, The Golden Dragon Restaurant, on Oct. 14.

His family owns and operates the restaurant on St. Andrews Street West.

A very close-knit family, the Chengs live above the restaurant with three daughters, Sierra, Cynthia, and Sonia, while another daughter, Cecillia, lives just down the street.

All the girls attended local elementary schools and the older girls attended Centre Wellington District High School.

The restaurant was closed for two weeks following the accident as the family struggled with the situation and needed to travel to Hamilton every day.

The Golden Dragon is open on weekends only for take out business to help provide some income for the family.

The daughters, with family members and friends, have pitched in to help run the kitchen, while Cheng’s wife, Ping, is dealing with the ongoing crisis.

A benefit concert is being planned to help the family, but by the request of the family, will be held at a later date.

A trust fund has been set up to assist the Cheng family at TD Canada Trust in Fergus. Donations can be made at any branch by asking to donate to the Cheng Family Trust.

Donations can also be dropped off at Shaw Music, at 145 St. Andrew Street West, in Fergus.
