Trio offers Valentine”™s concert, dance in Eden Mills

Eden Mills Music at the Hall presents a unique evening of music and dance on Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14 at 7:30pm in the Eden Mills Community Hall.

Bourrée à trois, a unique and lively trio of musicians, welcome one and all to experience and dance to wonderful, romantic French music and European songs performed on hurdy-gurdies and bagpipes.

The evening will begin with a concert and evolve into a dance in the second half which will be enhanced by the participation of skilled dancers in the costumes of mid-eighteenth century central France. Learn and enjoy simple traditional group dances demonstrated and led by caller/instructor, Karen Bennett of Toronto so everyone can join in. Neither partners nor experience are required. And of course the evening wouldn’t be complete without a waltz or two.

Bourrée à trois consists of local Eden Mills piper, Robin Aggus, playing French bagpipes and sax; and Sandra Spencer and Andrea Haddad of Toronto playing hurdy-gurdies. They all play other traditional instruments to round out the sound. They specialize in song and dance tunes from mid-eighteenth century France and Brittany.

The trio has performed together for the past three years, having met at a French music festival in Quebec nearly ten years ago.

The dancers are Karen Bennett, Alan Cerclier, Léa Chauvigné and Arnaud Dubra.

Enjoy the music, instruments, dance and a friendly atmosphere at the historic Eden Mills Hall with its wooden floor and excellent acoustics. It is an excellent venue for the band and dancers. The concert will raise funds for the ongoing refurbishment of the Community Hall.

With Bourrée à trois, Eden Mills is launching a series of concert/dances at the Hall. Partners and experience are not required. The next event, on March 14, will feature Scatter the Cats, the traditional folk and Celtic-influenced band from Owen Sound. Contra dancing is their specialty.

The Valentine’s concert and dance is on Feb. 14 at 7:30pm, (doors open at 7) at the Eden Mills Community Hall, 108 York St., Eden Mills. A cash bar of beer and wine will be available.

Tickets are $20. For information or to reserve a ticket call 519-856-9292, or email musicatthehall@gmail.com.
