LISTOWEL – Trillium Mutual Insurance has donated $5.000 to Family Counselling and Support Services for Guelph-Wellington (FCSSGW) to upgrade equipment and software as it provides mental health counselling during these COVID times.
The insurance company announced the donation through its Recognizing Our Opportunity to Support (ROOTS) community fund on Oct. 7.
FCSSGW operates a distress line, along with four mental health walk-in clinics located in Fergus, Mount Forest and Harriston, where residents can receive support while remaining anonymous.
As well, the agency is the only non-profit provider of customized Employee Assistance Programs in the area.
“Family Counselling and Support Services for Guelph-Wellington (FCSSGW) is thrilled to receive this funding as it enables us to upgrade our operations in more rural communities,” stated Joanne Young Evans, executive director, in a press release.
“This funding will directly affect our frontline care.”
Since COVID-19 began there has been a surge in the number of calls their distress line has received.
Unfortunately, the technology being used to deliver these services was dated and prevented FCSSGW from delivering mental health support to as many people as possible.
The ROOTS Community Fund donation will be used to support the development and increased accessibility of their rural programs and distress line.
“The ROOTS Community Fund donation will help ensure that as many families in the Guelph-Wellington area have access to the services they need.
“Through FCSSGW we can develop stronger networks osf support for our communities” said Tracy MacDonald, President & CEO of Trillium Mutual Insurance.
