Trillium grant helped Fergus Agricultural Society prepare for upcoming fall fair

FERGUS – In 2021, the Fergus Agricultural Society received a $28,000 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation’s Resilient Communities Fund.

Completed earlier this year, the grant has enabled the volunteer organization to facilitate a stakeholder survey and purchase health and safety equipment for use at the Fergus Fall Fair and other community events.

“We are very grateful to the Ontario Trillium Foundation for supporting the Fergus Fall Fair,” Wellington-Halton Hills MPP Ted Arnott said in a press release.

In addition to hiring a consultant to develop, deliver and analyze the results of a stakeholder engagement survey, the Fergus Agricultural Society has purchased two portable hand washing sinks, two portable hand sanitization stations, 20 picnic tables and a variety of posts and chains to direct pedestrian s and vehicles.

“The timing of this Ontario Trillium Foundation grant has had a profound impact on our organization,” said Tayler Black, past president of the agricultural society. “We have received valuable insights and recommendations from over 1,000 community members and were able to purchase necessary equipment to provide a safe environment for volunteers and attendees at future events.”

The Fergus Fall Fair is an annual showcase of local agriculture, food, talent and rural fun.

While the last two in-person fairs were cancelled due to the pandemic, the 185th fair is planned for Sept. 16 to 18 at the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex. Visit fergusfallfair.ca to learn more.
