Trailer park thefts

Police are reminding property owners to properly secure seasonal cottages and trailers and to remove valuables in an effort to deter would-be thieves.

The reminder comes following a rash of break-ins at the Elora Gorge Lower Pines Seasonal Trailer Park on Middlebrook Road in Centre Wellington Township.

Wellington County OPP was contacted by a property owner who said her trailer was broken into sometime within the last few weeks.

Police say at least six trailers were entered and miscellaneous household items and cash were taken. The trailers were also damaged by the suspects (ie. broken windows, damaged doors and frames, etc.).

Police are offering the following tips for vacation home owners:

– secure all windows and doors;

– remove all valuables and alcohol;

– close curtains or blinds;

– ensure regular visits take place;

– if possible, ensure adequate lighting and use  motion detectors;

– secure out buildings (garage/shed);

– put away tools that could be used to assist criminals; and

– if you are leaving vehicles, make sure they are secured and disabled and consider an alarm system.

“Remember, if you see something, say something,” police state. “If you see suspicious activity or behaviour around your vehicle or neighbourhood, report it.”
