‘Tractors and Tailgates’ theme 167th annual Arthur Fall Fair

ARTHUR — The 167th annual Arthur Fall fair will take place Sept. 8 to 10, with the theme “Tractors and Tailgates.”

On Sept. 7 there will be a kick-off beef barbecue dinner, which will begin at 5pm. 

Ambassador contestants will then be participating in cake decorating at 5:30pm, and there will be an “Arthur’s Motor’s and Machines” children’s free event beginning at 6pm. 

Early bird exhibit registration at the arena lobby will also take place from 7 to 9pm. 

Friday

On the Friday, the fair grounds and arena will open for placing of exhibits at 9am. The judging of exhibits in the arena and hall will be held at 1 to 5pm, and it will be closed to the public.

At 7pm, the Arthur fall fair parade will begin from the St. John Parish Centre parking lot and will move to Georgina St. Buildings will be open again to the public at this time until 10pm.

A free outdoor family movie night will take place at ball diamond B at 8:15pm. 

The fair ambassador competition and cake auction will then begin at 8pm which will mark the opening of the fair.

Saturday

The following day, grounds will be open at 8am for livestock exhibits and the Wellington North Fire Services pancake breakfast will be held at the same time until 11am at the Arthur station.

Grounds and buildings will become open to the public at 9am with the West Luther 4-H beef achievement show and open driving show (horses) starting at 9:30am.

The “Ag Café” will be open from 10am to 3pm in the main hall, and also at this time two new events will be happening: the dog lure course at ball diamond A, and Noah Nogueira will be holding a juggling, magic and comedy show for all ages at the auditorium stage.

Following Nogueira, who has a second show at 1pm, will be the baby show at 10:30am. The  West Luther 4-H dairy achievement show will also take place at this time.

Some new events to the fair will be happening on the Saturday. These are a sandcastle competition, which will be held at the Optimist pavilion at 1:45pm, and Bingo, which begins at 7pm in the upstairs hall.

Many other activities will be taking place throughout the day such as a chili cook-off, children’s activities and inflatables and 4-H open shows for sheep, beef and dairy.

Sunday

The fair will begin again on Sept. 10 at 10:30am with a western horse show.

At 11am at ball diamond B, there will be a kids power wheels demolition derby, and an hour later a kids pedal tractor pull in front of Youth Palace.

Sheep shearing demos and a sheep show will begin at 12:30 and will run for two hours.

A pet show and frog jumping contest will also take place at 1pm.

 The crowning of the 2023 to 2024 Arthur Fall Fair ambassador will happen at 2pm.

The hall and curling rink will close to the public on the Sunday at 4pm to permit exhibits to be removed, and all exhibits are asked to be picked up by 4:30pm.
