Township waives hall fees for graduation

Local grade 8 graduates will be able to enjoy some worry-free dancing next summer, as long as the Rockmosa Community Centre is clean at the end of the night.

Guelph-Eramosa council last week approved a request to waive the Rockmosa hall rental fee for the graduation ceremony for grade 8 students from Rockwood Centennial Public School.

Kathy Lush, representing the graduation committee, made the request of council due to space constraints at the school. She said the evening event on June 26 will include an awards ceremony and dance.

Mayor Chris White said he is in favour of the request, which fits the township’s policy for requests from non-profit groups. However, he told Lush organizers need to ensure the hall is cleaned up after the event.

There was a problem with that in the past at a similar event, the mayor noted. Lush agreed to pass on the message.
