WELLINGTON NORTH – Township council has approved Community Improvement Program (CIP) funding for projects in Mount Forest and Arthur.
A May 4 staff report from Wellington North economic development officer Dale Small presented an application from McFarlane Family Dental in Mount Forest.
The report notes the owner of the Main Street commercial complex is currently repainting the exterior of all the units and McFarlane Family Dental intends to install new signage when the painting is completed. Total costs are expected to be in the vicinity of $8,000.
Council approved a grant of $2,500 toward the sign project.
Council also approved a CIP grant of $1,500 for the Arthur Chamber of Commerce. In partnership with the Arthur BIA, Township of Wellington North and the Arthur Art School, the chamber is moving forward with a public art project called Paint the Town Rainbow.
The goal is to do a downtown-wide business rainbow window painting with the rainbow running continuously from one window to the next, like a ribbon connecting all of the businesses in the downtown. Eligible costs relate to paint and materials as well as the washing and cleaning of the windows. Labour costs are being donated by the Arthur Art School and local business owners, the report notes.
Councillor Lisa Hern pointed out much of the painting for the Arthur project had already been completed “and it looks wonderful.”
“It looks fantastic. Well done,” added councillor Steve McCabe.
“I know they’re appreciative of council’s support in helping to fund some of this for them,” said Small.
