A new public school here is one step closer to reality now that Guelph-Eramosa council has approved a zoning bylaw amendment for the school property on the south side of the village.
On May 21 council unanimously approved re-zoning the 2.4-hectare (6-acre) property from agricultural to institutional to allow the Upper Grand District School Board to proceed with a $6.2-million, 34,000 square-foot school at the end of MacLennan Street, just outside the village’s current urban boundary.
The county will now consider an official plan amendment for the school, which expected to open in September 2014, at its next planning meeting in June.
