Add Guelph-Eramosa Township to the list of local municipalities in favour of establishing a county-wide economic development and tourism committee.
Mayor Chris White said the idea is not for the county to take over the job, but just to allow the seven lower tier municipalities to work together on certain things, such as trails and festivals.
Last month, following a meeting of all Wellington County’s mayors, chief administrative officers, and economic development personnel, Mapleton’s Patty Sinnamon wrote to all seven lower tier municipalities asking them to support a request to county council to establish the committee.
“It makes sense to pool our resources and market Wellington County with a regional approach and subsequently on a global scale,” Sinnamon said in her letter.
Guelph-Eramosa council unanimously supported the idea, as well as the terms of reference for the committee. Councillor Roger Knapp was absent.
All seven municipalities have now considered the proposal, with Guelph-Eramosa, Erin, Mapleton, Puslinch and Minto in favour.
Centre Wellington has rejected the idea and Wellington North has deferred the matter.
