On the advice of Public Works Director Larry Lynch, council here decided earlier this year to include $50,000 in this year’s budget for crack sealing, to try to prolong the life of municipal roads.
“One of the best methods of preserving asphalt road infrastructure is to seal the longitudinal and transverse cracks in the early stages of the roads lifecycle,” Lynch said in a follow-up report to council last week.
Two firms offered quotes for 35,000 metres of the hot rubberized asphalt compound used to seal cracks, with the lowest from The Crack Master Ltd., of Ottawa, for $44,450.
Lynch said now is an ideal time to seal road cracks and Crack Master has committed to meeting township time limits immediately.
Council unanimously approved the Crack Master bid of $44,450.
