The township has approved a bylaw to set the tax rates for 2010.
Residents had an idea how much they would be paying in taxes this year after Mapleton council passed its budget in March – with a 2.5% levy increase – but now they know for sure.
As an example, owners with a home assessed at $250,000 will pay $844 in township taxes, $1,768 in county taxes and $602 to the province for education purposes – for a grand total of $3,214 in 2010 taxes.
The average Mapleton homeowner will experience a township tax increase of about 1.7% this year, although that figure can fluctuate up or down depending on the assessment increase applied to the property by the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (the average assessment increase in?Mapleton this year is about 4.8%).
For every $100,000 in assessment on farmland, owners will pay $84 to the township, $177 to the county and $60 for education – for a total of $321.
For those who do not pay taxes with monthly mortgage payments, taxes are due and payable in two equal installments; one on Sept. 24 and one on Nov. 26.
