The town of Erin will proceed with a 5th Line bridge as its preferred choice for a Building Canada Fund grant application.
Roads Superintendent Larry VanWyck offered several other choices to council on Oct. 21, including the Station Road bridge in Hillsburgh and the reconstruction of Sideroad 5. But ultimately, councillors endorsed VanWyck’s preference of the 5th Line.
VanWyck told council there is concer n among staff that “road construction projects may not be looked upon as favourably as bridge rehabilitation” by grant officials; and the Station Road structure does not meet the criteria for grants.
He estimated the cost for the replacement of the 5th Line bridge will be about $800,000.
