It is a small step that could go a long way to promote Minto as a Sports community to a larger audience.
Councillors here recently agreed to become a member of the Canadian Sports Tourism Alliance at a cost of $150.
Recreation Director David Stonley endorsed the recommendation from the town’s tourism, heritage, arts and culture committee, commenting that the alliance is “a governing body which looks at sport from a larger perspective.”
Stonley said Minto is “flush” with facilities – with three arenas – Clifford, Harriston and Palmerston – in addition to other outdoor Sports facilities.
“It seemed prudent to take out a membership.”
A membership, he said, would allow the town to apply to host any number of larger events in the municipality.
“For $150, it’s a pretty good value from a tourism perspective,” Stonley said.
