Local residents and merchants will be pleased to know county officials expect to have the Tower Street bridge here open to traffic within two weeks.
Mark Eby, construction manager of Wellington County’s engineering services (roads division), reports that construction on the bridge “has been going quite well.”
He stated, “We are now into the last … weeks of work and are hoping that the weather cooperates and does not hamper things too greatly.”
Eby noted contractor McLean Taylor has been pushing to get the entire project completed and cleaned up prior to Nov. 8.
Officials say asphalt paving from St. Andrew Street to Bridge Street is scheduled for next week. Workers will also be finishing up other odds and ends that are required over the next two weeks.
“Should the road not be in a state to be completely open to traffic after Nov. 8 (due to weather impacts in the schedule), the county plans on keeping the road closed until all work and clean up work is completed,” Eby said.
“This will allow McLean Taylor a safe work zone to get their work done as quickly as possible.”
However, Eby did confirm with McLean Taylor that the site will be available for the Remembrance Day parade “as we have planned since the beginning of construction.”
Eby said, “The project team understands the importance of the parade to the community and it has been addressed at our progress meetings on a regular basis.”
He added the project team would like to thank the community for the patience and support shown throughout the project.
“It has been greatly appreciated by all involved,” said Eby.
