Touch a Truck raises $5,500 for Minto Fire

The Touch a Truck event held on Aug. 24 at Harriston Motors was a fun event geared to kids, families and “young at heart” adults.

Youngsters had an opportunity to climb aboard a variety of heavy equipment, honk the horns, flash the lights and explore and learn about fire, farm and equipment safety.

The event included interactive games at exhibits, a huge corn box, photo booth, door prizes, a clown, face painting and a children’s show with entertainer Dickie Bird.

The event also included a barbecue lunch fundraiser hosted by Harriston Motors in support of Minto Fire.

Over 300 youngsters, plus adults turned out for the event, which raised $5,548 for Minto Fire and their 2013 mission of raising funds and support for Confined Space Rescue Equipment and Training.

“Minto Fire and Harriston Motors would like to extend a huge thank you to all who came out to the event and for all those who participated by bringing out equipment and helping us raise the funds for such an important mission,” organizers state, noting Napa and Ideal Supply along with Brenmar Transit, Bramhill Truck Centre, Kimbal Printing and Wellington Construction were all sponsors.

Plans are in the works for  Touch a Truck 2014 on June 14. Anyone who would like to join the committee is urged to go to www.mintofiredept.on.ca for information.
