Top 10 ratings for Guelph schools in latest Fraser Institute report

Two Guelph high schools received top-10 ratings for secondary schools in Ontario for the 2012-13 school year based on the annual education performance report card released by the Fraser Institute.

Centennial Collegiate Vocational Institute and Guelph Collegiate Vocational Institute were ranked in the top 100 based on a combination of their 2012-13 scores and their five-year averages, but based solely on the past year’s ratings of 8.2 and 7.8 respectively, both schools have top-10 ratings.

Secondary school scores on the Fraser Institute’s report card are out of 10 and based on the results of tests administered by Ontario’s Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO).

The high schools were ranked based on the 2012-13 school year as well as on their average performance over the last five academic years.

The overall ranking for a specific school year is based on how the school rates in comparison to other schools in the province assessed on the report card.

Secondary school scores are based on Grade 9 EQAO academic and applied mathematics test scores, an assessment of students who didn’t meet the mandatory provincial standard, the difference between males and females in average achievement on the EQAO academic mathematics testing, the percentage of high school students who didn’t successfully pass the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test and the difference between the success rate of male and female students when attempting the literacy test for the first time.

There were 740 Ontario high schools included in the assessment.
