ELORA – Tom Mulvey has been named the chief of the Centre Wellington fire department.
Council approved the appointment on May 25.
“Tom has been a dedicated member of the township fire department for over 25 years, including 18 years as a senior officer,” reads the report to council.
“He joined the Centre Wellington Fire Rescue Department in 1993.”
Brad Patton, who has been fire chief for 18 years, officially retires at the end of this month, but had banked vacation days and wrapped up about a month ago.
Mulvey was deputy chief prior to this announcement.
“We’re excited to bring him on board,” said Pat Newson, managing director of community services.
“Congratulations to Tom,” said Mayor Kelly Linton after council unanimously approved his appointment.
“We’re in good shape with Tom as our fire chief.”
In a press release, Mulvey says he is pleased and honoured with the appointment.
“I am taking over the reins of an extraordinary team, and I could not be more honoured to lead a fantastic team of fire service professionals,” he states.
“I am eager to begin the next chapter of my career as fire chief, and would like to thank Chief Patton for his mentorship and support over the past 18 years. I look forward to serving the residents and visitors of Centre Wellington.”
Mulvey officially assumes the role on May 29.
