Time for Mount Forest residents to ‘Turn on Your Lights’

MOUNT FOREST – Royal LePage RCR Realty is getting ready for its annual Turn on Your Lights contest, an event that encourages some festive, friendly competition among neighbours.

“You don’t have to register or be nominated,” said Royal LePage realtor Dwight Benson.

All you have to do is decorate your home or business for the Christmas season, and “turn on your lights,” he said.

The competition, which is in its 41st year, is open to houses and businesses within the Mount Forest town limits.

A “neutral person” is chosen to go around town and check out all the festive displays and choose winners, Benson told the Advertiser.

Judging happens the evening of Dec. 14, and the first-place winner in the residential category receives $200 in “Chamber Bucks” that can be used at local businesses in Mount Forest.

Second place receives $100 in Chamber Bucks.

On the business side of the competition, there is only one winner, and the prize is a certificate of recognition and bragging rights.

Benson said you don’t have to have the most lights or brightest display to win, just put your most festive foot forward and you create your holiday display.

“We have a lot of really beautiful ones,” he said.
