ELORA – Three-hour on-street parking in downtown Elora and Fergus will begin on the May long weekend and end Oct. 31.
The limits apply seven days a week from 9am to 7pm.
Centre Wellington council approved on April 26 a contract with Alpha Technology Systems O/A Alpha Parking Solutions to carry out the pilot project.
As well as enforcing the parking bylaw and issuing warnings and tickets, the company will collect data the township can use as it assesses the program in the fall.
“The intent of the timed parking is to increase the turnover and availability of prime parking spaces in the downtown areas for the benefit of businesses, shoppers and tourists,” reads the report.
The cost of hiring Alpha has an upset limit of $100,000.
Affected streets in Elora are Metcalfe, West Mill, East Mill Street to Geddes Street, and Price Street.
In Fergus, the three-hour parking limit applies to St. Andrew Street West from Tower to St. David Street, St. Andrew St. East to Gowrie Street, and Queen Street West in front of the marketplace.
The pilot project was to occur last summer but was postponed because of the pandemic.
CAO Andy Goldie said he’s spoken to both of the BIAs, which are in favour of timed parking.
