‘Three glorious weeks of colour, creativity and community’:

Centre Wellington’s Culture Days runs Sept. 20 to Oct. 13

ELORA – Centre Wellington Township community development coordinator Paula Sealey describes National Culture Days as the largest collective public participation campaign undertaken by the arts and cultural community in Canada.

Last year, Sealey noted, Culture Days in Centre Wellington was recognized at the national level in The Overall Top Participating Community in Canada category, placing fifth overall. It finished first in the Towns and Rural Areas category.

“Every year, thousands of events are connected under the celebratory banner of Culture Days,” Sealey said.

“Communities large and small are united from coast to coast to increase public engagement in cultural experiences through free, participatory arts and culture events.”

The celebrations will take place this year from Sept. 20 to Oct. 13.

In partnership with the Elora Fergus Arts Council, the township will present “three glorious weeks of colour, creativity and community,” Sealey said.

The theme this year is CommUNITY: A Melody of 25 years. Sealey said it will embody the harmony, unity and celebration of Centre Wellington’s vibrant cultural tapestry. She added it is also a chance to recognize the amalgamation that formed Centre Wellington 25 years ago.

All events will be free or “pay what you may” to ensure everyone is able to attend the various cultural events, performances and activities “that make living in this community vibrant and entertaining,” Sealey said.

Unlike traditional volunteer-based events, Sealey said the success of Culture Days in Centre Wellington “relies heavily on the generosity and dedication of our local cultural organizations and artists.

“Many of these individuals and groups generously donate their time, skills, and resources to offer a diverse range of … events to the community. From artists and performers to heritage groups and community organizations, countless individuals contribute to make Culture Days a memorable and enriching experience for all.”

Sealey said Culture Days provides “a unique opportunity for residents of all ages to engage with the arts, discover new interests, and connect with local artists and cultural organizations. The joy and excitement that fills the air during these events are truly special.”

Sealey believes there is a genuine spirit of collaboration and a strong commitment to preserve and celebrate cultural heritage in Centre Wellington.

“Whether it’s through participating in events like Culture Days, supporting local businesses, or volunteering for various causes, the people here always show up with kindness and enthusiasm,” she said. “It’s this collective energy and pride that make Centre Wellington such a wonderful place to live and work.”
