Three free insect-related events will occur in the Guelph region on Sept. 30.
On the University of Guelph campus, three invited entomologists will present highlights of their research at the opening session of the Entomological Society of Ontario’s annual conference. These talks are designed to appeal to non-scientists. The venue is Peter Clark Hall, University Centre (lower level), University of Guelph, between 8:30 to 10:30am.
The Arboretum of the University of Guelph is offering one-hour explorations of insects on goldenrod flowers in the afternoon. This casual hike is designed for students ages 5 to 16, but people of all ages are welcome.
Participants will encounter a wide variety of insects and spiders on this outdoor “bug hunt.”
Aerial nets, jars and identification sheets will be provided for the hike. Participants should wear closed-toe shoes appropriate for roaming off trails.
These guided walks are free but registration is required. Space is limited. Tours will depart at 2pm and 3:30pm from the J. C. Nature Centre at The University of Guelph Arboretum.
Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory has offered a limited number of complimentary admissions and guided tours on the afternoon of Sept. 30.
A special exhibit on butterflies of India and South Asia will be taking place. Tours begin at 1 to 3pm.
Pre-registration with ESO for the Butterfly Conservatory tours is required, and registrants must present proof of registration at the conservatory.
Advance registration is required for all three events. Details can be found at entsocont.ca/agm-2017.html.
