Police received a report of a vehicle here being entered overnight on Wellington Road 45.
Bortolato reported sometime between Feb. 24, at 11pm and Feb 25, at 8:45am, a locked Chevrolet pick-up truck was parked in a driveway of a rural residence and window was smashed. A wallet, along with a passport, was stolen.
Police remind vehicle owners such thefts are a crime of opportunity. The key to protecting valuables is in the hands of citizens. Police offer the following tips:
– always roll up the vehicle’s windows and lock its doors;
– never leave the vehicle unattended while it is running;
– with a garage, use it and lock the door as well as the vehicle’s doors;
– never leave car keys in plain view or an easily accessible area;
– always park vehicles in a well-lit area; and
– never leave valuable objects or packages in full view. Put them in the trunk or bring take them inside.
