Based on Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland published in 1891 and Disney’s Alice in Wonderland released in 1951, Alice in Wonderland Jr. is the beloved classic brought to life by 32 extremely talented children between the ages of 6 and 15; fourteen of whom are performing with Orangeville Music Theatre for the first time.
Alice in Wonderland Jr. will take place from Jan. 8 to 17.
Many songs from the Disney movie are featured while some have been combined or rewritten creating an excitingly new, yet familiar, score.
One of the most intriguing aspects of this show is that two of the main characters have been written to be performed by multiple actors. Alice is played by Ella Brown while Makayla Broom and Meghan Desaulniers fill the roles of Small Alice and Tall Alice, respectively. The Cheshire Cat, known and loved by all, is played by three girls with distinct personalities who come together to create a very interesting character who is definitely larger than life.
All of the characters expected to be in Wonderland are played by children who’s dedication to, and love for, theatre is apparent from the very opening of the show until the final bows. Director Bailey Mills, music director Cheryl Zumbach, choreographer Sarah Deckers, stage manager Cathy Broom, set and props manager Gelene Slaney-Malow, and costume designer Bobbi Ferguson have collaborated to create a show sure to entertain and transport the audience to the Wonderland everyone has wished to be a part of.
