The National Volunteer Week theme for 2021 – “The Value of One, The Power of Many” – reflects on “the awe-inspiring acts of kindness by millions of individuals and the magic that happens when we work together towards a common purpose,” state Volunteer Canada officials.
“This past year, we have seen people supporting family, friends, neighbours, and strangers, people standing up to systemic racism, and people sharing insights on how to create a more just and equitable society,” Volunteer Canada officials added in a statement recognizing national Volunteer Week, which runs this year from April 18 to 24.
“We recognize the value of the caring and compassion that each one has shown another, and we recognize the power of people, organizations, and sectors working together.”
PIN, People and Information of Guelph Wellington, issued a press release publicly thanking all those who found ways to volunteer and help others through this difficult past year in the shadow of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“For volunteerism, the pandemic was a caution and a call to action,” stated PIN executive director Kim Cusimano.
“Volunteers are a powerhouse; across Canada, volunteers contribute two billion hours, over $155 million worth of their time … volunteerism is a resource to be treasured, nourished and recognized.”
