The Wellington County Museum and Archives will be opening the Tarot Lovers: Works of Heart group exhibit just in time for Valentine’s Day.
An opening reception is scheduled for Feb. 9 from 7 to 9pm.
The exhibit is a follow-up to the Elora Tarot Project of 2013, and will feature artwork focused exclusively on the “lovers” card of the tarot deck. The exhibit will showcase work from 40 artists, and be on display from Feb. 10 to May 27.
“Explored in the exhibit are modern concepts of lovers, which are not usually depicted in the traditional tarot cards,” said project coordinator Shelley Carter.
“This exhibition is also a reaction to the many situations around the world that seem to be attempting to incite violence and intolerance between people. What better antidote to hatred and divisiveness than that of the love and togetherness found in the tarot ‘lovers’ card?”
Each artist in the exhibit interpreted the “lovers” card of the tarot deck in their own style and medium, creating an exhibit of individual pieces with unified imagery and design. Images have been reproduced and will be available for purchase.
The opening reception will be held on Feb. 9 from 7 to 9pm at the museum, located on Wellington Road 18 between Fergus and Elora.
The galleries are open weekdays from 9:30am to 4:30pm and 12 to 4pm on weekends and holidays.
Admission is by donation.
