The Seed Community Food Hub hires directing coordinator

The Guelph CHC and Guelph Neighbourhood Support Coalition are pleased to announce Andrea Webber as the new Directing Coordinator of The Seed Community Food Hub.  Andrea brings her passion for food, health and social justice, and her experience as an educator and community organizer to her role which began in January.

“On behalf of the Seed Organizing Committee we are delighted to welcome Andrea. Her experience providing leadership for food education programs, engaging youth in social action projects, and coordinating local healthy eating initiatives will help establish The Seed as a pillar of a healthy, just and sustainable food system in Guelph” says Kate Vsetula, Co Chair of the Seed Committee and Community Health Manager at the Guelph Community Health Centre.

As Directing Coordinator of The Seed, Webber will work with the Advisory Group, as well as many community partners and volunteers to make the vision for The Seed a reality. An Ontario Trillium Foundation Grant received in November 2014 will provide funds to establish The Seed as a place for connection, support and community.  The Seed will be universally accessible, but will aim to support vulnerable populations including newcomers to Canada and low-income community members in Guelph to be more food secure.

“We are thrilled that Andrea is joining The Seed team. There are many organizations in Guelph doing great work around food access, and our aim is to complement this work in our community. Andrea’s passion and skills will help us make this vision a reality” says Brendan Johnson, Executive Director of the Guelph Neighbourhood Support Coalition and Co-Chair of The Seed Committee.

Webber comes to the position with a Master’s in Teaching and a Bachelor’s of Science and Health from Queen’s University. She has worked throughout Ontario and most recently in the Yukon in education and community development.

“It’s an honour to join The Seed. The contribution this organization can make to the community is needed more now than ever. Food insecurity is a real issue in Guelph and The Seed provides an innovative and dignified way to address these issues from the ground up. I believe strongly in the power of food to build healthy communities“ says Webber.
