The reunion

It didn’t take long for attendees at the tribute evening last Saturday night in Drayton for John Green to realize a reunion of sorts was underway.

After 37 years in municipal government, John made many friends out of colleagues. It was only natural then to see dozens of political personalities from the ‘80s, ‘90s, 2000s and the 2010s all gathered to wish John C. Green well on his retirement.

Most of the speakers noted that during his time in office, Green accomplished much that enhanced the quality of life for residents in his beloved Drayton and across a wide swath of Ontario, including Guelph, Wellington and Dufferin county.

On a personal level, Green might well be one of the most loyal people anyone could ask for as a friend. Many of his early friendships in Drayton, where he settled as a young lad, are as strong today as they were then. Some friendships surpass 50 years, which is a feat in itself, let alone the number of people who have high opinions of Green. He is equally respected for offering his time and personal resources to others.

A number of years ago we commissioned Alan Argue to do a painting of the Drayton cenotaph for auction at a fundraising event. John bought it and gave it to Conestoga Crest as a piece of art for seniors to enjoy. That’s just the kind of generous thing he was known to do.

We wish him every success in his retirement.
