GUELPH – The J-Strokes will be celebrating the release of their seven song album at Sonic Hall in Guelph on April 17.
The Guelph band recorded their album at Escarpment Studios in Belwood.
“I had recorded a number of my solo projects there,” band guitarist Doug Roach stated.
“It was a great place for our band to capture the album bed tracks and then we recorded other tracks at my home studio.”
The band formed in 2018, playing shows of mostly covers with a few originals.
“We really enjoy the creative process of bringing song ideas to rehearsal and seeing where they lead us.
“We have three songwriters in the band and all of us contribute to the final song versions. For the album we focused on the best ones we had at the time,” stated guitarist Mike Sharp.
The J-Strokes’ album showcases their alt rock pop with a mix of blues, soul and classic rock.
The album release show will feature a horn section consisting of Aaron Duncan and Jeremy Shute who both played on the album.
“Having the opportunity to expand our sound and record different instruments, effects and vocal tracks really added to the album,” noted drummer Brad Holy.
The album is available on Spotify and the band has videos posted on their YouTube channel.
“We are really pumped for our album release show. It has been a long time coming and it will be great time, so I encourage everyone to get their tickets,” bassist Don Kudo stated.
Opening the show will be The Mighty Speed, a Guelph-based instrumental band.
On April 17, the band will feature Will Ford, Don Moore, Mal Odol, JP Bertuola and Jeremy Shute.
